LobStar Creator Spotlight: Sierra Barnes Draws on History, Myth, and Lobsters

Sierra Barnes is no stranger to myth — or to Very Big Comics. The DC-area cartoonist has been part of every VBC anthology since The Pub Crawl Anthology in 2017, and now she’s the artist bringing LobStar to life.

“I’ve drawn gods, ghosts, and revolutions,” Sierra says, “but LobStar’s divine lobster might be my favorite creature yet.”

Sierra has worked with publishers including Dark Horse Comics and Mad Cave Studios, but LobStar marks her return to indie roots — and to the creative freedom of collaboration.

When she’s not wrangling tides and tentacles, Sierra works on her acclaimed webcomic HANS VOGEL IS DEAD, with its second volume releasing May 2026.
