MotU Creator Spotlight: The Turnip Skull

We’re thrilled to announce that this morning, Musuem of the Uncanny reached 100% funding on Kickstarter! Because we have so many amazing stories, we’ve still got some stretch goals to unlock bonus comics to add to the book for everyone!

In today’s creator spotlight, Shane Savanapridi talks about his spooky comic “The Turnip Skull”, our first addition to this awesome book that’s less than $1,000 away at the moment. Read about his comics journey below.

How long have you been creating comics or working in your role?

Shane Savanapridi: Many years.

Who or what are some of your creative influences?

SS: Alex Raymond, Winsor McCay, Mike Mignola.

What drew you to working on indie comics in particular?

SS: Indie comics offer more variety of storytelling.

What inspired you to write this particular story?

SS: As a writer I was inspired by the dark but earnest lyrics of Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” song. What does forever love really look like? I wanted to explore what desires would still be present after death.

If the object in your story were real, would you want to see it in the museum—or avoid it at all costs?

SS: I would definitely go see a turnip skull.

What are some other comics or projects you’ve worked on (past or current)?

SS: I was a creator for Fairytales from Mars.

Which project are you proudest of, and why?

SS: You hope your current project is always your best – learning from past mistakes, building on experience, and stepping just outside your comfort zone.

Are you working on anything exciting right now that you’d like to share?

SS: I’m currently trying to get better at screenwriting.

How can we find you online and learn more about your work?

SS:

“The Turnip Skull” is the first stretch goal comic to be added to the Museum of the Uncanny on Kickstarter. Support Shane and the other creators by getting the book and becoming one of the first to enter the museum!
